Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to show the general panorama of the systematic of thought in the Ottoman period. For this purpose, philosophical debates in the classical period of the Ottoman Empire and Ottoman thought as a continuation of Islamic thought will be analyzed. In addition, the philosophical debates in the Ottoman period with the Westernization movement and the effects of these debates until the Republican period will be shown through thinkers and problems.

Classical Ottoman Thinkers, The Philosophical Themes in Ottoman Thought, Westernization and Ottoman Thought, The Philosophical Movements in 19-20. Century Ottoman Empire, Philosophical Movements During the Turkish Republic.
