Belagat aims to convey accumulated thoughts according to the exigencies of the situation and place, teaching the presentation of ideas in various expressions and styles within specific methods and rules. It seeks to impact the interlocutor with a flawless form in terms of wording, superior in meaning, and harmonious in structure. The Arabic Language and Eloquence I course aims to instill this mission in students.
The Science of Arabic Rhetoric (Ma'ani) examines how speech can be used effectively, persuasively, and correctly in Arabic. It primarily covers topics such as sentence structures (declarative vs. imperative), word arrangement (foregrounding and backgrounding), specification (qasr), and expansion/condensation of speech (itnab vs. ijaz). Through examples from the Quran, hadith, and classical literary texts, it teaches the subtleties of meaning and rhetorical techniques.
