Objectives of the Course

The aim of the general surgery pre-medicine practice program is to provide the student with the skills of examining the patients in the general surgery outpatient clinic, distinguishing the patient who will require surgery, and directing the patients who do not require surgery to the most appropriate branches. Among the other objectives of the internship are to increase the experience of the students, especially in the acute abdomen, by making personal examinations of patients requiring emergency surgery, to gain surgery and operating room discipline, and to increase their experience of approaching the preoperative and postoperative patient.

Course Content

Learning Outcomes
1.To have knowledge to diagnose, treat and follow-up diseases related to general surgery in primary care, and to direct emergency or elective cases requiring surgery to the advanced stage.
2.To know the health problems that require urgent intervention and the basic life support interventions related to the department and to have the knowledge to apply them when necessary.
3.To have sufficient knowledge in postoperative patient follow-up.
4.To gain physical examination skills and to apply the examination algorithm that will lead to diagnosis.
5.To be able to examine emergency or elective surgery patients and to gain the ability to make differential diagnosis by combining the history, clinical and laboratory findings of patients with radiological findings.
