Objectives of the Course

The objective of this course is to give basics solar energy and and its applications.

Course Content

Renewable energy sources and introduction of solar energy. Solar radiation. Flat plate collectors. Transparent covers and absorber surfaces. Thermal calculates of flat plate collectors. Solar energy storage. Water heating system of solar energy. Thermal calculations of water heating systems. f-Chart method. Automatic control systems. Applications of solar energy. Concentrating collectors.

Learning Outcomes
1.To describe the importance of solar energy as one of the renewable energy sources. To recognize the solar powered water heating and other systems and their operation. To employ calculation methods used in the design and selection of solar powered water .
2.To describe the characteristics and applications of solar energy.
3.To recognize components and operation of the solar powered water heating systems .
4.To recognize the structure of solar powered heating system and their operation.
5.To express the other applications of solar energy such as refrigeration, drying, distilled water and electric production etc .
6.To apply the calculation methods used in design and selection of solar powered water heating systems.
