Objectives of the Course

The objective of this course is introducing the mechanisms of physical and chemical actions leading to deterioration of concrete and describing how to control these effects.

Course Content

Definition and types of concrete, Concrete; significance of concrete durability-relation between trength and durability, Factors ınfluencing durability of concrete-mix design of concrete due to durability, Water permeability of concrete and effects on durabiliy, Concrete cracks, physical&mechanical causes of deterioration, Deterioration of concrete due to chemical causes, biological attack and efflorescence, Effects of carbonation, Effects of fire, Effects of sea water, Effects of sulfate, Alkali-aggregate reaction in concrete, Effects of freezing and thawing, Reinforced corrosion and reasons, Counter-measures of reinforced corrosion.
