Objectives of the Course

To teach fundamentals of bridge design methods and introduce bridge design codes.

Definitions, general informations, classifying of the bridges, Plate bridges, plate beam bridges, frame bridges, arch bridges, Cable-stayed and suspension bridges, Required conditions for a well designed bridges, Legal loads, highway design loads and load factors, Loads and load combinations, Modern analysis techniques, Simplified methods of analysis, Specifications for reinforced concrete bridges and applications for simple plate bridges, Numerical applications for arc bridges, Bridge support and bridge abutments, Impact and vibrations, Fatigue and brittle fracture, Health monitoring of bridges.
