Objectives of the Course

The objective of this course is to teach the students fundamental concepts of GIS, GIS technology, GIS analyses, GIS applications in civil engineering, and GIS design using relevant computer software.

Course Content

Introduction to Geographical Information Systems, fundamental concepts, data types, data acquisition, database management and design, data query, data analyses, GIS computer software.

1.The student will be given information on basic concepts of GIS and be able to use GIS software
2.The student will learn GIS data models, data acquisition methods, data input, and editing.
3.The student will learn GIS analysis methods and be able to use proper tools to solve engineering problems that require spatial analyses.
4.The student will learn GIS applications in Civil Engineering and gain the ability to use GIS in various Civil Engineering applications.
5.The student will be able to utilize GIS as a decision support tool.
