The main aim of this course is to help primary student teachers to comprehend the aims and objectives of Social Studies and its importance in primary education. The course also aims to help primary student teachers to gain theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in using teaching methods and techniques in Social Studies and to know about measurement and assessment procedures and processes.

Social science field and its? characteristics, basic goals and skills in social studies field, literacy in social studies, basic themes and fields in social studies; place and historical account of social study field in elementary education, examination of social science curriculum (target, skill, theme etc. . ) ; strategy, methods, techniques and materials using in social science course and sample applications; democracy, human rights and values education in social studies; comparison and examples from the social science textbooks in Turkey and other countries
