Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to examine music not only as an art form but also as a form of expression, historical document, and cultural carrier. The aim is to introduce students to the role of music in human history throughout the ages, its storytelling power, and its social impact.

Course Content

This course explores the journey of music throughout human history. It explores how music has evolved from the first appearance of sound to today's digital environment. The topics covered range from ceremonial music in primitive societies to melodies of ancient civilizations, from folk songs to classical music, from the music of migratory societies to today's popular music. The relationship between music and social media, film, games, and other forms of art is also explored with examples.
