Objectives of the Course

The objective of this course is to equip students with an understanding of the fundamental molecular mechanisms underlying the organization, preservation, transmission, and expression of genetic information, beginning with the structure and function of biological macromolecules. The goal is for students to be able to explain the mechanisms of DNA replication, damage, and repair, as well as transcription and translation, and to analyze the regulation of gene expression. In addition, the course aims to equip students with fundamental knowledge and skills regarding genome organization (nuclear, organelle, and viral genomes), cellular signaling pathways, and recombinant DNA technologies.

Course Content

Cell theory, modern cell structure, common features of biomolecules; carbohydrates; structure and function of proteins; common features of nucleic acids, structure and synthesis of DNA and genetic material, replication, transcription, translation, regulation of gene expression.
