The department of Mathematics was founded in 1996 with a master of science program. Since then, our department steadily improved in the field of Theory of Algebra and Number, Geometry, Theory of Calculus and Functions, Topology, Applied Mathematics, and Computer Science. The first undergraduate students were adopted to our department on 2000-2001 academic year, and it had its first graduates at the end of the academic year of 2003-2004. In 2009-2010 academic year, our department came to a position to have Ph.D. program. The department currently has 21 academic staff who give 70 different course at undergraduate programme.

Master of Science Program is opened in 1996 - 1997 academic year. Undergraduate Program is opened in 2000 - 2001 academic year. Doctoral Program is opened in 2009 - 2010 academic year.

The department mission is to increase the contribution to the undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Adnan Menderes, is to create a dynamic and productive academic staff respected in the world of science in the field of Theoretical and Applied Mathematics, is to open summer schools for students, is to attempt to train more qualified students to earn graduate program, is continuously to update our undergraduate program to comply with the requirements of the day, and is to educate the inquisitive, investigative and productive students.

The department vision is to give the same level of education at the well-known mathematics departments in the national and international arena, to monitor technological trends and make available them to the staff and the students, and to train the mathematicians who can use his/her knowledge with an active way to comply with the requirements of the day.

The main objective of the department is to educate confident, well-educated contemporary individuals who are well qualified to express his/her thoughts, and can search for solutions to the faced problems through reasoning, questioning.

Lessons are given the classes in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Students benefit from campus in the entire social and cultural opportunities.

In addition, a computer lab is available to students. The department has also a classroom for graduate students.
