Objectives of the Course

Teaching all the current and historical features of main information of Modern Turkish dialects

Course Content

Investigating the reasons of localism in Turkish; reviewing texts of different dialects especially Azerbaijani Turkish dialects and Tatar Turkish dialects in terms of sound, form, syntax, and linguistics

1.To be able to evaluate at least one dialect in modern Turkish dialects
2.To be able to evaluate by taking up Turkish language its dialects and accents and by comparing synchronically and diachronically
3.To be able to recognize at least one of the dialects that in different groups
4.To be able to evaluate skills between dialects and other disciplines (history, geography, philosophy, sociology, anthropology, archaeology, etc)
5.To be able to compare similar and different aspects of dialects in the modern Turkish dialects in South-West and East groups
6.To be able to use dialects in scientific researches
7.To be able to evaluate these dialects in terms of modern language and literature theories
8.To be able to use the knowledge in scientific researches
9. To be able to explain Turkish dialects
10.To able to implement alive Turkish dialects into related studies and the skill of doing master degree

Weekly Detailed Course Contents
Week 1 - Theoretical
An overview of the Turkish world. Today, the expansion areas of Turks in the world and the geographies they live in, states, autonomy, minorities.
Week 2 - Theoretical
Classifications made on the Turkish Language: First classifications (Kashgarlı, Strahlenberg), classifications made in the 19th century (Radloff, Vambery, Berezin etc.), scientific classifications made in the 20th century (Samoyloviç, R.R. Arat, Baskakov).
Week 3 - Theoretical
Baskakov's classification and explanation of the classification of Turkish dialects accordingly.
Week 4 - Theoretical
Comparison of Turkish dialects in terms of phonetics: The most important phonetic features of the Oghuz, Karluk and Kipchak Groups and their differences from the Oghuz group.
Week 5 - Theoretical
Turkmen Turkish: Information about the Republic of Turkmenistan, formation of the literary language, alphabets (Cyrillic, Latin).
Week 6 - Theoretical
Phonetics of Turkmen Turkish: The most important features, differences with Türkiye Turkish. Syntax.
Week 7 - Theoretical
Morphology of Turkmen Turkish. Noun category: Noun construction suffixes, Plural suffixes, Possessive suffixes, Case suffixes, , Numbers, adjectives, pronouns.
Week 8 - Theoretical
Morphology of Turkmen Turkish. Verb category: Verb formation suffixes, personal suffixes used in verb conjugation, Tenses (Present, Known past, Heard past, Future and Present tenses)
Week 9 - Theoretical
Morphology of Turkmen Turkish. Prepositional moods, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions.
Week 10 - Theoretical
Reading a text in Latin letters in Turkmen Turkish and translating it into Türkiye Turkish.
Week 11 - Theoretical
Reading a text in Latin letters in Turkmen Turkish and translating it into Türkiye Turkish. Examination studies of the read text in terms of phonetics and morphology
Week 12 - Theoretical
Reading a text in Latin letters in Turkmen Turkish and translating it into Türkiye Turkish. Examination studies of the read text in terms of phonetics and morphology
Week 13 - Theoretical
