Objectives of the Course

To introduce the main figures of mythology and its main stories. To see their symbolic meanings.

Course Content

Mesopotamia, Sumerian , Indian Chinese mythologies; Origins of the Greek mythology; Hesiod, Homer and Influences of myhtology on Philosophy.

Week 1 - Theoretical
What is the myth and mythology? Elements of the mythological thinking.
Week 2 - Theoretical
Elements of the mythological thinking. The Charecteristics of the Greek and Roma mythologies.
Week 3 - Theoretical
Theogonia-Cosmos: The Beginning of the Universe. From Kaos to cosmos. Titans era.
Week 4 - Theoretical
Corruption: The creation. Four periods of humanity. Corruption. Prometheus and Pandora.
Week 5 - Theoretical
Power and Reason. Olympian Gods and Goddesses (Zeus, Hera, Athena, Apollon, Artemis, Hermes, Hephaistos, Hestia, Ares, Aphrodite, Demeter, Poseidon). Zeus and his loves.
Week 6 - Theoretical
Dialectics of Reason and Desire: Apollo and Dionysus; Apollo and Daphne.
Week 7 - Theoretical
Desire and Love: Aphrodite, Eros, Psyke: Cupido(Eros) and Psyke; Orpheus and Eurydike; Pyramus and Thisbe.
Week 8 - Theoretical
The Journey and Searching for Promised: The story of the Argonauts and the Quest for the Golden Fleece; Phaeton, Pegasus, Daidalos.

Hero and journey of heros
