Objectives of the Course

Making new researchers meet Turcology. Providing students with critical thinking ability. Motivating them to generate new ideas under cover of the studies so far.

Course Content

The relation of language and history; the objects and extent of language- history studies; the internal- external history of the language. The theories of the language genesis; the place of Turkish among the language families. The history, notable figures and works of Turcology.

Week 1 - Theoretical
The objectives and essentials of the course, History of Tucology.
Week 2 - Theoretical
The Science of Turkishness in the old Turks period. Thoughts and proofs. Chinese, Hunnish and Greek sources.
Week 3 - Theoretical
Altaic Theory and the problems of the science Turcology.
Week 4 - Theoretical
Turcology and the classification of Turkish languages.
Week 5 - Theoretical
The old Turkish writing– The starting point of Turcology Science. Turcology rising from scriptures more than 570: historical truth and the forgotten science of Turkishness.
Week 6 - Theoretical
Old Oghuzs, Old Uighur and Old Kyrgyzs (Yenisey Kyrgyzs). The reasons of the rise of Old Turkishness Science. The Turcology of the Arabs.
Week 7 - Theoretical
The rebirth of old Turkestan and Turcology in the Medieval Age. Kaşgarlı Mahmud, Yusuf Has Hacip and Altun Yaruk.
Week 8 - Theoretical
The science of Old Kypchak, one of the most important branches of Turocology.
Week 9 - Intermediate Exam

The linguistics of Chagatay period, Turkish period of Turcology.
Week 11 - Theoretical
The linguistics of Ottoman period is the beginning of the new movements in Turcology.
