Objectives of the Course

Explaining the histrorical geography of Anatolia which worked as a bridge between Asia and Europe. In this context inquiring Anatolian history from prehistoric times to Persian invasion in Anatolia.

Course Content

Ancient Mediterranean history and culture within the context of the civilizations of Ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt from the earliest periods to Persian invasion.

Learning Outcomes
1.to be able to interpret historical borders of Anatolia which was called as “Anotolia” or “Asia Minor”.
2.to be able to list chronologically prehistoric ages and settlements which appeared in Anatolia.
3.to be able to define cultures of Ancient Bronze Age which flourished in Anatolia before the invention of script (III. Millenium B.C.).
4.to be able to write in which region of Anatolia the script was used, by which civilisations, for what purposes.
5.to be able to tell Anatolian peoples which lived in II. Millenium B.C. such as Hittites, Gasgas, Palas, Lukkas.
6.to be able to investigate Hittite identity under the topic of political history of Anatolia during the Hittite period in the light of cuneiform scripts.
7.to be able to interpret political history and foreign policies of Hittites who dominated Anatolia at the end of the age of Assyrian Trade Colonies.
8. to be able to comprehend Aegean Migration which caused to decline of great powers, especially the Hittites, of Near East in II Millenium B.C. and to interpret it in history.
9.to be able to describe political status of Near East, strugles of Phrygians, Urartians, Lydians and Neo Hittite City-States which appeared after Aegean Migration.
