The primary aim of the Ottoman Turkish I and II Course is to help students reach a level of knowledge that allows them to read texts in Arabic letters, which are called the old script of Ottoman Turkish. In line with this purpose, other objectives of the course include studies and exercises aimed at reading and understanding old written materials by learning Arabic letters, dictionary knowledge and gaining the level of knowledge to be familiar with the semantic world of Ottoman Turkish.
Learning Arabic letters, which is the most important issue of Ottoman Turkish, and studies that will facilitate the reading process by revealing all the writing styles and features of the letters, constitute the content of the course. In addition, the characteristics of Persian and Arabic elements in Ottoman Turkish and the roles they played in reading, Ottoman Era calendar knowledge, grammatical features from Turkish and their uses are other features that will be taught in the course. This course is given in two semesters: Ottoman I and Ottoman II. These two periods include teaching the content expressed here as a whole.
