This class deals with the political, religious, socio-economic and cultural structure of Europe in the Middle Ages, covering a period of approximately 1000 years between 500 and 1500. It examines the political, economic, religious, socio-economic and cultural developments of medieval Europe through the main topics such as feudal structure, religion-state relations, the interaction of the Western and Eastern worlds within the framework of the Crusades, scholastic thought and aims to develop students' historical analysis skills.
It is planned to determine the boundaries of the Middle Ages on the axis of the debate on the concept of age and to discuss the period from the Migration of Tribes to the Geographical Discoveries in general terms. In this context, the Early Middle Ages, High Middle Ages and Late Middle Ages and the political, social and economic transformations that coincided with these periods will be evaluated chronologically. In particular, the political formations and social movements that occurred after the Migration of Tribes and the Western Roman Empire, the role of the church in social and political life, Byzantine relations with the Turkish-Islamic world, the Crusades, the birth of universities, scholastic thought, political structures and economic developments will be emphasized.
