Objectives of the Course

The aim of the course is to inform the developments affecting the socio-economic structure of the Ottoman Empire between 1566 and 1789.

Course Content

Time Selim II (1566 -1574): Janissary revolt, the Ottoman Empire, Arabia, Ethiopia, Yemen, Aden, Egypt Policies; The conquest of Cyprus, the defeat of Lepanto. III. Murat Time (1574 -1595): Ottoman - European relations, Ottoman Iran, Georgia relations; Ottoman Wallachia, Moldavia and Transylvania, Austria relations. III. Mehmet Time (1595 - 1603): The Ottoman Wallachia, Hungary, Austria politics, Curve Expedition and subsequently the Turkish -Avustury Wars. Ahmed Time (1603 -1617): Peace of Zitvatorok. Jalali rebellions Istanbul Rebellion. Ottoman-Persian Wars. Mustafa I., II. Osman Times (1617 -1622): urging the Ottoman Empire, the Ottoman -Avustury, the Ottoman -Lehis Relations. Center Revolts and II. The murder of Uthman. IV. Murat, Sultan Ibrahim Times (1623 -1648): Ottoman -Iran war Baghdad, siege, Ottoman-Transylvania relations. Center revolts, Ottoman-Austrian relations. IV. Mehmet Times (1648 -1687): internal revolts, the Ottoman-Venetian relations, issues of Crete. A History of the Ottoman Empire Relations Lehistan. Sixteen and Seventeenth Centuries of Ottoman -Moscow Relations. Early Modern Ottoman North Africa, Mediterranean, Indian Ocean Policy.

Learning Outcomes
1.The student knows the reasons of the Ottoman Empire to enter the period of stagnation.
2.To evaluate the developments in the West in order to better understand the signation period.
3.XVI and XVIII. The relations of the Ottoman Empire with the Western States and their effects on the state in the 13th century.
4.A better understanding of the innovations and developments in the political, administrative, social, economic and military fields of the Ottoman Sultans according to their chronological order.
5.To understand the reasons of the popular movements that marked the period and to determine the problems that these movements brought to the central administration.

Explaining the Reform and Renaissance Movements in Western Europe and their reasons

Studies carried out to prevent stagnation

Giving information about the period known as the "Tulip Era" in the Ottoman Empire, when the first renewal movements began.
