Objectives of the Course

The matters of Ottoman Empire after the First World War will be evaluated. The Turkish independence struggle (1919-1922) under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Pasha will be analyzed politically, militarily and economically. In addition, the Treaty of Lausanne and the results will be evaluated.

Course Content

The situation of the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century; The situation of the great states of Europe before the First World War; Europe's policies about Turks, Oriental Question, Tripoli and Balkan Wars; First World War, Ottoman Empire's War, Caucasus and Canal Fronts; Iraq and the Dardanelles Fronts, the results of the Dardanelles Wars, the sharing plans of the Ottoman Empire in World War I; The Brest-Litowsk Treaty, Wilson's principles, Bulgaria, the Ottoman Empire, Germany and the Austro-Hungarian Empire signed a cease-fire; The Paris Peace Conference and the end of the war, the economic collapse and labor movements of the war; Mondros Armistice, the activities of the minorities, the status of the army, the government of Damat Ferit Pasha, the occupation of Izmir; road stretching from Istanbul to Samsun Mustafa Kemal, Congresses, Misak-ı Milli, opening of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Fronts of National Struggle, financial resources of the War of Independence; Abolition of the Sultanate, and the importance of the Treaty of Lausanne, Turkey Economic Congress, the establishment of the People's Party, the proclamation of the Republic; The establishment of secular legal system, social and cultural life, economic developments, contemporary education and science Atatürk's Principles, definition and nature
