This course deals with the political, religious, military and cultural aspects of the Crusades that started in 1095 and continued until 1291. In this course, it is aimed to develop students' ability to analyze historical events in multiple ways by evaluating the political and socio-economic situation in Europe before the Crusades, the reasons for the emergence of the crusades, the development and results of the crusades in terms of both Europe and the Turkish-Islamic world.
It examines the political, religious, economic and cultural reasons for the organization of war for nearly two centuries from a historical perspective. The development of the campaigns is described in a chronological framework. The Latin states established in the Near East, their relations with Byzantium and the Turkish-Islamic world, the reasons for the emergence of military orders, especially the Templar, Hospitalier and Teutonic knights, and their activities in the region, the effects of the results of these campaigns on both Europe and the Turkish-Islamic world are evaluated.
