Objectives of the Course

The purpose of this course is to examine the development of Turkish plastic arts and the transition phases to canvas painting and changes in the Ottoman society with the Westernization by separating them into periods.

Course Content

In this course, the initial stages of Turkish art in the Western sense will be discussed in the chronological order.

Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to explain how art was approved in the palace during the Ottoman period, and cultural changes.
2.To be able to recognize the artists who come to the palace with the ambassadors or by using their own resources in the Ottoman period.
3.To be able to compare the sultans who get art education at the Ottoman palace with foreign or minority artists of the period.
4.To be able to explain the generation of the first soldier painters, and painting lessons in the Military and civilian schools
5.To be able to define the schools where Fine arts education began in the Ottoman Empire (Sanayi-i Nefise Mektebi Alisi), İnas Sanayi-i Nefise Mektebi ,opened for girls, Community of Ottoman Painters.
6.To be able to discuss the artists who are sent abroad for training and their art education.
7.To be able to interpret female and male artists of the period in terms of their education and works.
