The Department of Economics aims to cultivate individuals capable of evaluating national and global economic, financial, and social developments with an analytical and critical perspective, and of generating solutions based on scientific methods. Our graduates take on active roles in the public and private sectors, non-governmental organizations, and academia, contributing to society through entrepreneurial and innovative approaches. The program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of economic theories and research methodologies, while integrating knowledge from related disciplines such as finance, law, and sociology. Students develop skills in analyzing economic data using computer-based statistical tools, and enhance their abilities in effective communication and critical thinking. The curriculum equips students to make informed, ethically grounded decisions in areas such as sustainable development, income equality, and social welfare. Offering a strong foundation for graduate studies and diverse career paths, the program promotes lifelong learning and social responsibility.
History
The Department of Economics has been offering undergraduate education since 1993. Since 1994, it has also been providing graduate education, actively running a Master's Program with Thesis, a Non-Thesis Master's Program, and a Doctoral Program.
Mission
The mission of the Department of Economics is to train economists who can critically and analytically evaluate economic, financial, and social developments at national and global levels; develop solutions to economic problems through research based on scientific methods; take on active roles in the public sector, private sector, and non-governmental organizations; and possess entrepreneurship, leadership, and social responsibility awareness, while adhering to ethical values and being productive and innovative. Additionally, the department aims to contribute to national and regional development, sustainable economic growth, and social welfare through scientific research and project studies.
Vision
The vision of the Department of Economics is to become a leading department that produces scientific knowledge in line with the fundamental principles of economics, contributes to economic and social development by offering this knowledge for the benefit of society, and gains recognition at both national and international levels. It aims to educate individuals with strong analytical and critical thinking skills, a high sense of social responsibility, and a commitment to ethical values; to promote interdisciplinary collaboration; and to develop innovative, sustainable, and holistic solutions to economic and social problems.
Purpose
The primary objective of the Economics program is to equip graduates with the necessary competencies to build successful careers in the private sector, public sector, and academia. Our graduates contribute as qualified professionals in the following domains:
1-) In the public sector, they undertake positions as inspectors, auditors, specialists and civil servants contributing to the development and implementation of public policies.
2-) In the private sector, they undertake positions as economists, auditors, consultants, specialists, bankers, managers, and accountants in national and international firms, banks, other financial institutions, insurance companies, consultancy firms, and research centers, contributing to the effective management of business processes.
3-) By adopting an entrepreneurial approach in various sectors and fields, they establish their own businesses or contribute to existing ones, develop sustainable, technology-driven, and socially impactful projects, and contribute to the business world with innovative solutions.
4-) By pursuing graduate studies, they enhance their knowledge in the field of economics, conduct academic research, and undertake academic positions in higher education institutions, private and public research centers, contributing to the production of scientific knowledge.
5-) They develop an awareness of integrating sustainable development, income equality, social welfare, and environmental responsibility into economic policies. Guided by ethical principles, they make informed decisions and contribute to society by working in non-governmental organizations (NGOs) or other institutions dedicated to these areas.
Physical Infrastructure
The educational activities within the program are conducted under the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Aydın Adnan Menderes University, located in Nazilli. The faculty plays a central role in providing the physical infrastructure necessary for educational activities and in creating an environment conducive to achieving the program’s learning outcomes. Situated on the İsabeyli Campus in the Nazilli district of Aydın, the Nazilli Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences occupies a total indoor area of 20,000 square meters. The faculty includes 13 classrooms and 36 lecture halls dedicated to teaching activities. There are 80 offices in total, 64 of which are assigned to academic staff. In addition, a technology room equipped with 40 computers is available for use by students and academic personnel. As part of a protocol signed with İş Yatırım Menkul Değerler A.Ş., one of the available spaces has been furnished as a modern finance laboratory equipped with advanced technological infrastructure. The faculty also features a conference hall with a seating capacity of 350, suitable for hosting large-scale events. All classrooms and lecture halls across the faculty are equipped with projection systems and are shared among academic programs on a rotational basis. To support academic work, the faculty houses a library containing approximately 6,700 printed books and 41 periodicals. The library is regularly updated to expand access to information and promote research. For social interaction between classes, the faculty building includes a cafeteria and a staff lounge. Additionally, the campus hosts various sports facilities to support students’ physical development and promote healthy lifestyles. Dining services are provided through a cafeteria and canteen. Furthermore, benches and seating areas have been installed throughout the campus grounds, allowing students and staff to spend time outdoors comfortably. Across from the faculty building, there are commercial establishments such as a market, stationery shop, and café, offering convenient access to additional services for students and staff.
Technical Infrastructure
The computer and internet infrastructure at the faculty is designed to provide 24/7 access for academic and administrative staff through desktop or laptop computers available in each office. Continuous access to academic and scientific publications is ensured. Students are also granted access to this infrastructure through computer laboratories that are open during education hours. Wireless internet access available in nearby private cafés and businesses is heavily used by students. All academic and administrative units within the faculty building are supported by both fixed (wired) internet connections and secure, uninterrupted wireless internet through the EDUROAM network. Aydın Adnan Menderes University possesses a robust information system infrastructure aimed at conducting educational activities, academic monitoring, and student support services via digital platforms. Across the university, a total of 15 information systems are actively in use. Of these, 5 directly support the achievement of program learning outcomes and educational goals, while the remaining 10 contribute indirectly through the management of administrative processes, data security, and technical support. The primary platform for managing students' academic processes is the Student Information System (OBIS), which enables students to manage their academic careers online. ADÜZEM, the university’s Distance Education Portal, facilitates access to online course content and allows common and elective courses to be delivered independently of physical location. The ADÜZEM Virtual Meeting System (ADÜ STS) is primarily used at the graduate level for thesis monitoring and defense processes, providing a secure environment for conducting academic meetings online.
