Objectives of the Course

The Regulation Theory and Policy course aims to teach students the reasons behind the state's economic and social regulations, the theoretical foundations of these regulations, and their practical applications. Students will gain the ability to understand market failures, externalities, public goods, and information asymmetry, and to evaluate the necessity and effectiveness of government intervention.

Course Content

This course covers regulation theories and the reasons and types of state intervention according to market types. The course will examine various market types, including competitive markets, natural monopoly markets, oligopoly, and monopoly markets. It will also address the economic and social justifications for government intervention and evaluate the effectiveness and side effects of these interventions. Students will learn about different types of regulation, such as economic regulation (e.g., price controls, entry-exit regulations) and social regulation (e.g., environmental, health, and safety regulations). Finally, the course will discuss the effectiveness, efficiency, and reform of regulatory policies.
