Objectives of the Course

The aim of the course is to convey the relationship between local politics and democracy in a comprehensive manner from various aspects. The history of local politics, its development, its relationship with democracy, different institutions that exemplify the relationship between local politics and democracy, and the state of the city in this context are some of the topics of the course.

Course Content

The scope of the course includes examining different models of democracy within the framework of the phenomenon of political participation and explaining participatory democracy from this perspective; establishing the relationship between local governments and (participatory) democracy and examining the importance and role of local governments in the development of participatory political culture in this context; examining the representative democracy practices of local politics, especially in the process of establishing local decision-making bodies, and explaining the forms of practice that contribute to the strengthening of political participation in local democracy.
