Objectives of the Course

This course aims to enable students to have knowledge on the main principles of Turkish foreign policy and the main factors that affect foreign policy. It also aims to evaluate Turkish foreign policy within the context of international relations and foreign policiy analysis. In addition, another aim of the course is to analyze the causes and consequences of the developments that can be considered important in terms of Turkish Foreign Policy in the last 200 years.

Course Content

Basic principles of Turkish foreign policy, basic factors affecting Turkish foreign policy, Turkish foreign policy in the period of Ottoman last period Turkish War of Salvation and the early Republican period, basic problems of Turkish foreign policy, Turkey's relations with main organizations and states; Turkish foreign policy in the Republican period between 1923-2000.

Learning Outcomes
1.Students will be able to explain the historical development of Turkish foreign policy from the late Ottoman era to the present within a chronological framework.
2.Students will be able to define the theoretical foundations of Turkish foreign policy and evaluate the influence of national power elements in the policy-making process.
3.Students will be able to analyze the international treaties signed during the foundation of the Republic and their impact on Turkish foreign policy.
4.Students will be able to comparatively examine the foreign policy approaches of the Atatürk, İnönü, and Democrat Party periods.
5.Students will be able to analyze current thematic issues in Turkish foreign policy and assess the transformations in the post–Cold War period.
