Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to gain basic knowledge about plant pest mites, their damages and management of phytophagous mites.

Course Content

The course covers the following topics: Morphological features and internal systems for mites, classification of Acari, general information to identify the plant pest mites belonging to Orders Prostigmata (Tetranychidae, Tenuipalpidae, Penthaleidae, Tarsonemidae, Eriophyidae) and Astigmata (Acaridae), and their biology and damage symptoms, control methods for phytophagous mites.

Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to summarize the fundamental importance of phytophagous mites in plant production
2.To know morphological and anatomical features of mites
3.To be able to identify the plant pest mites belonging to Orders Prostigmata (Tetranychidae, Tenuipalpidae, Penthaleidae, Tarsonemidae, Eriophyidae) and Astigmata (Acaridae)
4. To be able to decide control phytophagous mites
5.To be able to determine the appropriate control method for mites
