Objectives of the Course

The aim of the course is to provide the students with knowledge and skill on fungal diseases that cause economic damage to field crops in Turkey and their control methods.

Course Content

The course covers the fungal diseases which cause economic losses on major field crops in Turkey. Each disease is held in terms of economic impact, damage types, geographic distribution and environmental conditions favoring disease development. The symptoms of the diseases are described and the morphological features of the causal agents are provided. Disease cycle of each disease and the methods used in the management of the disease are given. The course is accompained by laboratory studies mainly on diagnostic features of the diseases.

1.To be able to identify most important fungal diseases on the major field crops of Turkey.
2.Gain knowledge about the taxonomic characteristics of fungal pathogens that cause economic losses in field crops.
3.To learn biology of fungal pathogens that cause problems in field crops.
4.To be aware of crop losses and damage types caused by fungal diseases that are problematic in field crops.
5.Learn how to control fungal diseases that are problematic in field crops and can make recommendations.
