Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to give information to students about ornamental plants definition, position of ornamental plants in the World and Turkey, ecological requirements of ornamentals; to provide to students to comprehend of the importance of outdoor ornamentals plants in terms of rural and urban landscape and, basic principles of using outdoor plants and to gain of information about botanical characters, cultural and ecological requirements, propagations and significant culture varieties of adapted woody species to Turkey conditions.

Course Content

Definition of ornamental and position of ornamental plants in Turkey and World, the importance of outdoor plants in terms of rural and urban landscape. The classifying according to their some physical criteria (norm, form, texture, branching) of ornamental. Taxonomic, morphological, biological characters, and ecological and cultural requirements, and propagation methods, and significant culture variety characters of tree, shrub, bush and vine species. To introduction of species in field, sample collection for supporting identifying and formation of herbarium works. Introduction of indoor plants and their propagation and their growing techniques.
