Objectives of the Course

As in every branch of science today, with the advancing technology, the science of Plant Protection keeps pace with the modernization trend and continues its studies in this direction. Scientists can easily transfer this advanced technology to both laboratory and field studies and capture current developments without wasting time. However, the concept related to some modern technologies, especially those used in the field, remains in these scientific studies and usually cannot be the subject of an undergraduate course. All the studies carried out in Plant Protection are ultimately related to the field and their results are used in the field. However, the places of study of graduated students are mostly fields. Especially today, public organizations and companies have focused on using these modern information technologies in field studies and have started to train their employees in this regard. The aim of this course is to eliminate the lack of sustainable information technologies in the field at the undergraduate education level and to raise awareness of this issue to the students. In order for the course to be conducted, students do not need to have any additional knowledge other than that they are basic computer and Internet users. Without going into too much detail, it is aimed to attract the attention of students to this topic, which is now often used in modern agriculture, to have an idea about these technologies that they may probably encounter after graduation, and to gain the ability to work together with other branches of engineering in the creation of systems that will allow the development of new technologies.

Course Content

Within the scope of the course; hardware and software introduction of computers, which are the main tools of information technologies, introduction of some frequently used programs are included. In addition, mini/micro computers used in the field and their components will be mentioned. In addition, the Internet and related concepts, the Internet of things and global positioning systems will be discussed. In particular, information about the use of sensors and control systems in the field of plant protection will be provided with examples. The possibilities of using information technology in subjects such as insect/disease observation / evaluation/counting, early warning systems, pest management will be explained. In addition, information will be given about data, databases, artificial intelligence and the possibilities of their use in plant protection. All these topics will be related to each other and information will be given about how they are used and can be used without going into too much detail. In addition, two separate applications will be made, one in the classroom and one in the field.
