Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to make the students understand the general situation of forage crops and the latest scientific improvements about forage crops, to have information about the interaction between forage crops and animal husbandry, to identify the legume forage crops, to gain the ability of describing at which situations and for which purposes forage crops could be used, to identify the selection criteria and to learn the growing technics of forage crops.

Course Content

The definition, history,classification of forage crops, the problems during the production of forage crops and policies, the ecology of forage crops, the agricultural characteristics of legume forage crops, clover, alfaalfa, sainfoin, birdsfoot trifoil, vetch, bitter vetch, faba bean, pea, kidney bean, lupin, grasspea, legume forage crops of warm climate

Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to comprehend the importance of forage crops on agricultural production.
2.To be able to have an opinion about the problems of growth of forage crops and have solutions for these problems
3.To be able to have information about morphological characteristics of legume forage crops and to be able to synthesize this knowledge with production projects
4.To be able to derive appropriate model equalities using the advantages and disadvantages of legume forage crops for the projects which are aiming to deliver animal husbandry
5.To be able to give information to producers for recommending the appropriate forage crop species, procuring the material, production process and economical analyses
6.To be able to make synthesis about production potentials and production models of different regions
