Objectives of the Course

The main objective of this course is to provide students general information about the definition of ornamental plants, and the state of ornamental plant production in the world and Turkiye, to provide general information on ecological requirements and propagation of ornamental plants. Also, another aim of this course is to gain the necessary knowledge about the botanical characteristics of woody species have adapted to the current ecological, cultural, and ecological requirements, propagation, varieties etc., to understand the basic principles in using landscape plants, and to understand the importance of outdoor ornamental plants in terms of urban and rural landscape.

Course Content

Definition of ornamental plants, classification, the situation of ornamental plant production in the world and Turkiye, the importance of outdoorplants for urban and rural landscape, classification of plants according to the physical properties such as norm, form, texture and branching; taxonomical, morphological and biologicalcharacteristics of some important trees, shrubs, bushes, and wrapping-climbing species, their ecological and cultural demands, their propagation methods, some cvs and their characteristics, the introduction of the species in the field, reinforcing recognition of specimen collection, Create a work of herbarium, the introduction, propagation and growing of indoor plant species.

1.To be able to identify and define ornamental plants, classify, perceive ecological factors affecting the cultivation of ornamental plants and grasp the ecological requirements of plants
