Objectives of the Course

Recognize ground cover plant and grass species; to provide students with the ability to use this information in landscape planning and design courses for aesthetic, functional and ecological purposes.

Course Content

It evaluates the characteristics of ground cover plants and grass species, their flowering times and durations, habitat characteristics, and their usage possibilities in terms of landscape planning and design.

Name of Lecturer(s)
Assoc. Prof. Derya GÜLÇİN
Learning Outcomes
1.Recognizes the importance of professional turf fields and the role of landscape architects in the creation and management of these areas; and specifies the quality criteria sought in quality and functional grass fields.
2.It classifies grass types, distinguishes them from each other, remembers general growing conditions and recommends suitable types and mixtures according to different environmental conditions and usage purposes.
3.It lists and describes the methods used to create grass areas, and discusses the procedures to be carried out by taking into account natural factors such as climatic and soil etc.
4.It defines the general maintenance procedures applied to grass areas, recognizes the basic problems that can be seen in grass areas and suggests solutions.
5.Can make cost calculations, including the necessary plant material, fertilizer, peat, etc. facility and maintenance inputs for areas to be created from grass fields and ground cover plants.
6.Recognize ground cover plant species, define their basic characteristics, growing conditions and propagation techniques.
7.It describes the planting techniques of ground cover plants and recommends the most suitable types for different designs within the framework of ecological and aesthetic rules.
