Objectives of the Course

Student know the historical development of the midwifery, professional values and philosophy, the duties, powers and responsibilities, ethical rules and principles, to obtain information about the Codes of Ethics in Midwifery, identify ethical problems and solutions and to develop a proposal.

Course Content

During the course, students have got knowledge about historical development of midwifery, professional values and philosophy, the duties, powers and responsibilities, ethical rules and principles, to obtain information about the Codes of Ethics in Midwifery, identify ethical problems and proposed solutions to improve their skills and obtain relevant information provided is given.

1.To be able to explain the historical development of the profession of midwifery
2.To be able to count criteria for the profession and evaluate midwifery profession in terms of these criteria
3.To be able to explain the philosophy of the profession of midwifery and professional characteristics.
4.To be able to explain the position and responsibilities of the midwife within a health care team, to be able to explain the concepts of rights and values and to be able to tell human rights, women's, children's and patients' rights
5.To be able to report ethics / historical development of the science of deontology
6.To be able to say ethics, ethical theories and theorists
7.To be able to report ethical problems, ethical codes and the methods of ethical decision making in midwifery
8.To be able to explain malpractice status, results, the methods of prevention
9.To be able to tell frequently encountered ethical problems in women's health and to develop a solution with a proposal
10.To be able to recognize mother and child neglect and abuse and develop a solution
