Objectives of the Course

The main objective of this course is to examine the political thought of Mesopotamian cultures, Anatolia, Aegean world, Ancient Greece and Rome starting from the first thought products and to analyze the western thought that was put forward until the 20th century.

Course Content

Starting from ancient Greece, the subjects of state, power, human nature, justice, virtue, equality and freedom in the context of medieval and social contract thinkers.

3.Examine the Mesopotamian cultures, Anatolia, Aegean world, Ancient Greek and Roman political thought.
4.Have knowledge about the philosophy of the Middle Ages
5.Have knowledge about Renaissance philosophy

Week 1 - Theoretical
The students will be able to; Have knowledge about the products of thought in Mesopotamia and ancient Egyptian civilization.
Week 2 - Theoretical
Students learn about city state order and early thinkers in ancient Greece, Sophists' views: the birth of the individual, the first physicists.
Week 3 - Theoretical
Students will learn about Socrates and Plato.
Week 4 - Theoretical
Students learn about Aristotle.
Week 5 - Theoretical
Students Polybius; Cicero; Have knowledge about Epicurists and Stoa School.
Week 6 - Theoretical
Students learn about the social structure of the Middle Ages and political thought in the Middle Ages.
Week 7 - Theoretical
Students learn about Islam and Thought.
Week 8 - Theoretical
Students will be able to understand political thought in the modern age: Machiavelli; Thomas Moore; Have knowledge about Jean Bodin.
Week 9 - Intermediate Exam

Students learn about Thomas Hobbes, Jacques Bossuet and John Locke.
Week 11 - Theoretical
The students will learn from Montesquieu, J.J. Rousseau; Have knowledge about Emmanuel-Joseph Sieyes.

Students E.Burke, Fichte; Hegel, B. Constant; Have information about A. Tocqueville.
Week 13 - Theoretical
Students learn about John Stuart Mill and Marxism.
Week 14 - Theoretical
Students will learn about B. Shaw, G. Berkeley and B. Russell.
Week 15 - Theoretical
General evaluation of the course.
