Objectives of the Course

The objective of the course is to improve students’ knowledge and skills in tourism guiding by giving information about daily life in ancient ages.

Course Content

Information will be given about the main characteristics of daily life, how the daily life was, religion, urbanization, trade and eating patterns in prehistoric and protohistoric ages.

1.He/ she gets information about daily life from ancient ages (from Paleolithic period) to Iron Age (1200 B.C.)
2.He/ she investigates the relationships between archaeology and other disciplines.
3.He/ she learns general concepts and terms about daily life in ancient ages.
4.While guiding, he/ she learns how to inform the guests on the subjects of life in the ancient ages.
5.He/ she learns the daily objects used in daily life, comprehends the differences as compared to the other ages.
6.He/ she learns the activities aiming at investigating the social relationships of different regions in the ancient ages.
7.He/ she learns the differences between primitive man and people in Iron age.
8.He/ she comprehends the similarities and differences between daily life in the ancient age and daily life in modern age.

Weekly Detailed Course Contents
Week 1 - Theoretical
Information will be given about the course and method will be explained.
Week 2 - Theoretical
Ancient ages will be given chronologically by explaining the concept of daily life.
Week 3 - Theoretical
Information will be given about the Paleolithic age, human beings and daily life.
Week 4 - Theoretical
Information will be given about eating patterns and food supply activities, hunting and living in caves in the Paleolithic and Mesolithic ages.
Week 5 - Theoretical
The subjects of sharing daily life and reproducing will be discussed.
Week 6 - Theoretical
Information will be given about the transition to the life style in Neolithic age ( A case of Çatalhöyük) by laying emphasis on melting of icebergs that brought innovations to the life style.
Week 7 - Theoretical
By discussing the subjects of agriculture and stock breeding, their impact on daily life will be investigated.
Week 8 - Theoretical
Forming the concepts of temples and religion in Neolithic age on people’s minds will be explained through the case of Göbeklitepe .
Week 9 - Theoretical
Information will be given on the subjects of trade, agriculture and eating patterns.
Week 10 - Theoretical
Information will be given about the subject of urbanization and specialty with the Bronze age and transition to class society.
Week 11 - Theoretical
Information will be given about the concepts of different business lines and trade- A case of Kultepe Kanish/ Karum
Week 12 - Theoretical
The subject of daily life in Mesopotamia will be discussed by giving general information about Mesopotamia
Week 13 - Theoretical
Information will be given about social structure in Anatolia in the 2000 B.C. and life and living conditions in Hittites
Week 14 - Theoretical
Information will be given about life and living conditions, laws of Hittites
