Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to teach the fundamental techniques of Operations Research and to enable the use of these techniques in solving business problems and making effective decisions. The course also aims to equip students with the ability to model, analyze, and solve business and management problems using quantitative methods.

Course Content

Within the scope of this course, fundamental quantitative methods used in solving business and management problems are examined. In the first part of the course, linear programming model formulation, transportation problems, and assignment problems are introduced, while optimization approaches for the efficient utilization of business resources are explained. In the continuation of the course, project management topics such as activity planning, GANTT charts, and PERT/CPM analyses are covered, and project planning processes, time management, and critical path analyses are examined through practical applications. In addition, within the scope of queuing models, the basic structure of queuing systems and the performance measures of M/M/1 and M/M/k models using Kendall notation are evaluated. The course also covers the concepts of simulation, random number generation, and probability distributions, including Binomial, Poisson, Bernoulli, Uniform, Normal, Exponential, and Beta distributions, together with discrete-event simulation applications. In the final part of the course, deterministic and probabilistic inventory control methods are examined, with emphasis on economic order quantity, economic production quantity, stockout inventory models, quantity discount inventory models, and single-period and multi-period inventory control models.
