The school was founded as affiliated with Ege University at the beginning of 1974-1975 academic year , and it is the first school that has been opened in its field. Our school, which was affiliated with Dokuz Eylül University in 1982, then became affiliated with Adnan Menderes University in 1992. At the beginning of 1996–1997 Academic year, it was moved from Aydın to Kuşadası. The school has been carrying on its education and training activities in Kuşadası since then. Besides our department, the Department of Travel Management, the Department of Accommodation Management and the Department of Food and Beverage Management are available in the academy. The students who will receive education in our department are determined according to Language- 1 score. The students are required to attend to Operational Turkey Tour, to succeed in the evaluations following the tour, and to get at least 75 points in YDS (Foreign language exam) in order to get a Tour Guiding Certificate from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. (Fees are paid by students). If these conditions are fulfilled, the graduates are entitled to get Tour Guiding Certificate from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
History
Although our department was active as Travel Management and Tour Guiding in the beginning, as a result of the assessments of the councils associated with the issue in 2011, it was determined that the heads of the departments in the School of Tourism and Hotel Management would be reconstituted.Within this scope, Department of Travel Management and Tour Guiding was transformed into two departments named as Travel Management and Tour Guiding.The foundation of the department was put into practice in 2011-2012 academic year with three academic members. By year 2016, there are six academic staff ,in the department of tourism guiding whose names are Prof. Dr. Abdullah TANRISEVDİ, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gül ERBAY ASLITÜRK, Asst. Prof. Dr. Battal OĞUZ, Teaching Asst. Ergün EFENDİ, Res. Asst. Vedat ACAR and Res. Asst. Ayşe ARSLAN.
Mission
The Program aims at raising candidates of tourist guides who know the structure and the process of tourism industry in Turkey, who are experts on the field of tourism, who know at least one foreign language by heart and second foreign language very well, who could offer service to visitors coming from different cultures by meeting their needs, who are sociable and self confident and who are deeply bound up with the ethical values which the occupation of tourist guiding requires.
Vision
Our vision is to maintain and improve the qualification of being a preferable department by tourism sector and the graduated students who are the candidates of tourist guide.
Purpose
The aim of department is to make a contribution to become a tourist guide in great demand by redounding qualifications to students which domestic and foreign visitors want, anticipate and need.
Physical Infrastructure
Department carry on education in the campus of Faculty of Tourism in Kuşadası.
Technical Infrastructure
There are 13 classrooms, 1 lecture hall, 1 canteen, 1 dining hall, 1 library and 1 auditorium as well as necessary offices for the administrative services. There are enough teaching materials in classrooms and laboratories (projector, PC, interactive white board etc.).
