Objectives of the Course

The aim of the course is to enable the students to learn the features and functions of the concepts of myhos-logos. In addition to this main purpose, it is also aimed to be informed about the Middle East and Near East myths.

Course Content

Within the context of In this course, the concept fo mythos- logos will be discussed comprehensively. Some main issues (such as birth of the Gods, birth of human, creation of human, flood, first sin) will be analyzed comparatively.

2.He/ she gets information about about Mesopotamian myths.
3.He/ she interprets the impacts of Mesopotamian and the Near East myths on Anatolian culture.
4.He/ she learns Abel and Cain in different mythologies by comparing each other.
5.He/ she investigates flood myths discussed in different mythologies by comparing with each other.
6.He/ she handles the subject of myths of creation comparatively.

Weekly Detailed Course Contents
Week 1 - Theoretical
Similarities and differences between legend, epic and myth will be investigated by handling the the concept of mythology.
Week 2 - Theoretical
Information will be given about birth of the Gods and creation of human in Sumerian, Iranian, Accadian and Babylonian mythologies.
Week 3 - Theoretical
Information will be given about birth of the Gods and creation of human in Sumerian, Iranian, Accadian and Babylonian mythologies.
Week 4 - Theoretical
Information will be given about "Gılgamesh myth" having an important place in both Sumerian and Babylonian mythologies.
Week 5 - Theoretical
The Figure of "snake" depicted as immortality, fruitfulness in The Near East and Middle East mythologies will be handled comparatively.
Week 6 - Theoretical

The relationship between sacred books and mythology will be analyzed.
