Objectives of the Course

The aim of the course is to familiarise students with the basic concepts related to local government such as decentralization, delegation, devolution, local democracy, autonomy, tutelage and subsidiarity, and to examine history, units, structure, functions, operation and problems of the Turkish local government system

Course Content

Basic concepts related to local governmet such as decentralization, autonomy, local government theories, central-local government relations, development of Turkish local government, local governments in Constitutions, units of local government (municipalities, villages and Special Provincial administrations), metropolitan municipalities, local government finance, functions of local government, reorganization of local government
