Objectives of the Course

The aim of the course is to give an outline of mathematical background of compilers and to teach the practical working principles of compilers.

Course Content

Compilers, interpreters, lexical analysis, syntax analysis, scopes and symbol tables, parser, scanner, regular expressions, run-time environments, object-code generation and optimization

Name of Lecturer(s)
Learning Outcomes
1.Understand the difference between compilers and interpreters
2.Explain the concepts and different phases of compilation with compile time error handling.
3.Represent language tokens using regular expressions, context free grammar and finite automata and design lexical analyser for a language.
4. Compare top down with bottom up parsers, and develop appropriate parser to produce parse tree representation of the input.
5. Generate intermediate code for statements in high level language.
6.Design syntax directed translation schemes for a given context free grammar.
7.Apply optimization techniques to intermediate code and generate machine code for high level language program.
