Objectives of the Course

It is informed about media realities in globalization world. Media theories and the reflections of democratic processes to media are debatable questions.The representations of different social events on media are considered in different media theories in this course. And also the relationship between social media and society is discussed.

Course Content

Globalization and media, culture and media, media ownership, gender and race representations in the media, social media and society, and hate speech.

1.Defines the core dynamics of new media that distinguish it from traditional media in light of theoretical approaches and analyzes the socio-economic structure of the network society.
2.Critically evaluates the impacts of algorithmic culture, surveillance capitalism, and digital platformization processes on social structure, public opinion, and individual identity construction.
3.Theoretically investigates the manipulation of information in the digital age, the post-truth transformation, disinformation mechanisms, and their roles in social polarization.
4.Analyzes digital activism, cyberpolitics, and digital public sphere practices within the context of social movements, discussing the opportunities and limitations of cyber-protests.
5.Subjects the individual and social impacts of artificial intelligence, attention economy, and digital networks to critical analysis within ethical, cultural, and psychological contexts.
