Objectives of the Course

This course aims to examine representations of gender in the media and raise awareness about the concept of gender. The content of the course consists of comprehending the gender in general, understanding the representation of the gender in the media and comprehending social representations.

This lesson deals with; concept of gender, representation of gender in the media and social representations.

1.Explains gender theories, conceptual frameworks, and historical development within the context of media studies.
2.Decodes gender representations, stereotypes, and masculine discourse forms in print media, television, cinema, and advertising content.
3.Evaluates the mainstream media structure critically by analyzing the links between power relations, feminist theories, and the media.
4.Identifies sexist inequalities emerging in media processes and media language through contemporary examples.
5.Develops an alternative, rights-based news language proposal based on gender equality by examining media texts from a critical media literacy perspective.
