Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to teach the theoretical foundations, historical development, and fan culture (fandom) of transmedia narratives in which storyworlds spread across multiple media platforms. Students are expected to transform the theoretical knowledge they acquire into a creative and conceptual project/case analysis.

Course Content

Introduction to transmedia narratives; key concepts and classifications; transmedia and adaptation; Henry Jenkins's and Jeff Gomez's principles of transmedia; media convergence; transmedia journalism; fan culture; creative reproductions; and alternative identity management.

Learning Outcomes
1.Defines the concepts of media, intermedia and transmedia; explains convergence processes between digital and analog environments.
2.Analyzes intermedial representations and cultural sustainability themes across verbal, graphic and cinematic storytelling formats.
3.Critically evaluates how content produced across different platforms such as television, social media and performance interacts with audiences/users.
4.Designs an original transmedia narrative project and portfolio for a target audience by utilizing the possibilities of cross-media culture.
5.Analyzes and comparatively evaluates content across different media platforms.
