Objectives of the Course

The primary objective of this course is to equip Radio, Television, and Cinema students with the skills to transform their creative work produced throughout their academic studies into a professional portfolio and showreel format. Students will learn to build their personal brand according to their target sector (editing, directing, cinematography, etc.), present their visual narratives through strategic curation, utilize modern digital platforms effectively, and express themselves as competent media professionals in job interviews. The course aims to bridge the gap between academia and the industry by enabling students to translate their artistic identity into a concrete, professional career tool.

Course Content

This course provides Radio, Television, and Cinema students with the tools to transform their academic projects into professional "proof of work." Students learn to curate their editing, cinematography, and directing projects into a compelling "Showreel," organize their work into a clean and accessible digital archive, and master professional communication skills (CVs, cover letters, and interview techniques) tailored for job applications. The goal is to translate academic experience into a tangible, industry-ready narrative that effectively showcases the student's technical and creative potential.

1.Analyzes professional workflows, technical requirements, and aesthetic standards expected from a media professional in the industry.
2.Selects and classifies their own creative works based on industry goals using the "less is more" principle; evaluates strengths and weaknesses with a critical approach.
3.Produces a professional 60-90 second showreel utilizing editing, sound design, and visual storytelling techniques to capture the target audience's attention.
4.They create and present a basic digital portfolio by bringing together their work.
5.Prepares resumes and cover letters in accordance with industry standards and defends their technical competencies in professional interviews with a persuasive tone.

Introduction and Inventory Analysis: Classification and analysis of the student's academic projects within the context of industry competencies.
Week 2 - Theoretical & Practice
Content Curation and Strategic Selection: Identifying the strongest works from the project pool; strategies for applying the "less is more" principle.
Week 3 - Theoretical & Practice
Industry Analysis and Expectations: Examining the technical and aesthetic standards of media sectors (production companies, post-production studios, digital platforms).
Week 4 - Theoretical & Practice
Showreel Techniques and Narrative Structure: Theoretical framework for time management, emphasis techniques, and flow design in showreels.
Week 5 - Theoretical & Practice
Showreel Workshop (I): Organizing selected visual materials on the editing timeline and their chronological/thematic arrangement.
Week 6 - Theoretical & Practice
Showreel Workshop (II): Professionalizing the content through sound design, music integration, and rhythm adjustments.

Technical Finalization: Optimization of image quality, color grading, and export formats according to industry standards.

Digital Archive and Portfolio Design: Presenting works on digital platforms; creating an archive architecture that prioritizes user experience (UX) and aesthetic integrity.

Project Documentation and Content Management: Writing professional descriptions for each project, including technical details, process explanations, and role definitions.

Industry Documentation (CV and Cover Letter): Designing competency-focused resumes suitable for communication faculty graduates and mastering professional correspondence techniques.

Professional Communication Strategies: Networking with industry representatives and mastering the language of professional e-mail correspondence.
Week 12 - Theoretical & Practice
Interview Techniques and Presentation (I): Professional interview processes, defending technical proficiency, and strategic response methods for industry-specific questions.

Interview Techniques and Presentation (II): Practicing portfolio presentations through simulations and engaging in critical feedback processes.

Final Assessment and Industry Presentation: Final presentation and evaluation of the comprehensive portfolio package (website, showreel, and CV).
