Objectives of the Course

Globalization has caused radical changes and transformations in the communication sciences as well as world of finance. The aim of the course is to examine the concept of globalization and the changes in the fields of communication and media.

Course Content

Globalization affects many other areas even if it is an economy based phenomenon and media is at the forefront of these areas. How the media is influenced by the globalization process and how the media affected these processes are the contents of this course.

1.Define the concept of globalization, its historical evolution, and the economic foundations of the global circulation of capital.
2.Explain the impacts of globalization on culture within the framework of cultural imperialism and cultural homogenization concepts.
3.Identify and classify media imperialism, the key actors of the global media industry, and the methods used by global media giants to shape public opinion.
4.Explain the operations, dynamics, and social functions of specific global media sectors, including news, advertising, music, entertainment, and sports.
5.Define and describe the relationship and conflict points between global shopping culture and local markets/traditional consumer demands.
