The primary objective of this course is to introduce participants to the unique storytelling possibilities of the radio documentary genre and to provide the technical and aesthetic foundations of audio storytelling. By experiencing the processes of research, field recording, sound design, and editing through a professional lens, participants learn to produce their own original radio documentaries by the end of the term. The program aims to explore sound not merely as a medium of transmission, but as a creative art form capable of painting "images in the mind.
This course positions the radio documentary as a sound-centered narrative art form. It provides a theoretical and practical framework covering the construction of documentary narrative structures, methodologies of field recording, aesthetics of editing within post-production processes, and the dramatic functions of sound design. Through ongoing workshops throughout the term, students experience all production phases, from the initial research stage to the final mix, thereby aiming to achieve proficiency in audio storytelling and develop a professional production practice tailored to the radio and podcasting ecosystem.
