Objectives of the Course

The objective of this course is to convey the operational and legal infrastructure of maritime, rail, air, and intermodal/combined transportation systems, which are the core modes of international transportation management beyond road transport, to students. Within the scope of the course, it aims to enable students to acquire competence in managing operational processes in the multimodal transport chain by examining international liner and port management, international transport organizations (such as IATA, UIC, FIATA), mode-specific documentation processes (bills of lading, air waybills, etc.), and network design.

Course Content

The content of the course encompasses the comparative analysis, infrastructural characteristics, and roles in global logistics of international transportation modes (maritime, rail, air). Within this framework, international rail transport law and cost management, maritime liner shipping operations, port processes and bill of lading (B/L) practices, air cargo transportation standards (IATA), and air waybill (AWB) issuance processes are examined. Additionally, intermodal and combined transportation networks enabling the integration of different modes, logistics information systems, and green logistics policies in global transportation are addressed through sample sectoral document reviews and case studies.
