Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to examine the historical origins of the logistics concept and the changes it has undergone over time, and to explain how logistics management has been shaped in military, commercial, industrial, and technological contexts. Within the scope of the course, the role of purchasing, transportation, inventory management, production systems, optimization techniques, decision support systems, and routing problems in logistics history is discussed, with the aim of enabling students to evaluate logistics practices from a historical and integrated perspective.

Course Content

This course covers the historical origins of the logistics concept, the transition from military logistics to commercial and industrial logistics, the historical development of supply chains, and the changes in the main areas of logistics management. Within the scope of the course, purchasing, industrial marketing, inventory management, transportation economics, production systems, optimization techniques, decision support systems, logistics software, distribution networks, and routing problems are examined from a historical perspective.
