Department of Psychology offers a 4 years (8 semesters) bachelor degree (B.A.) on psychology that attempting to develop an understanding and to formularize explanations of human behavior focusing on the cognitive and psychological as well as social and cultural aspects. Departmental organization captures the major areas of psychology as clinical, social, developmental, experimental, industrial/ organizational and, psychometry.
History
Our department was established on 6th May 2005. Since then teaching activities continuously carry out with several undergraduate and master courses for the students of various deparments of the university. Clinical Psychology (Integrated*) Doctorate Program started to accept students by the fall semester of 2013-2014 and the undergraduate education began in the academic year of 2015-2016. The current academic staff consists of one social psychology professor, two assistant professors who study on clinical psychology and eleven research assistants studying on clinical, social, experimental and developmental psychology. Three research assistants are being continued to their graduate degress in seperate universities. *which means the complete program of master and PhD
Mission
Our mission is to bring up psychologists who are able to learn on their own and open to self-development as well as to produce scientific knowledge in psychology and allied fields, and to render them for the benefits of society and to take part in applied contexts.
Vision
For the next 10 years our departmental goal is to become a department that make use of contemporary teaching methods in accordance with the mission, vision, values and strategic aims of our University and bring up psychologists who could manage to conduct researches in local, national and international contexts and to make contributions to the application of psychology knowledge for the benefits of society.
Purpose
After completing degree of psychology students will be able ; to have basic knowledge on the historical foundations, fundamental concepts and methodological perspectives of psychology as a scientific discipline. To have understanding about fundamental theories and approaches of psychology and also critical thinking about them. To have knowledge about divisions, fundamental research questions and specific research methods of psychology. To have information and skills to reach knowledge about psychology in applied settings, problems, researches and developments of psychology in Turkey. To have knowledge about the psychological assessment principles, frequently used psychological assessment tools and also have beginner’s level competence to administer them. To have knowledge about basic interviewing skills used diverse areas of psychology. To have skills to carry out some psychological applications. To understand how to follow and share recent knowledge effectively in psychology area. To have basic skills for formulating research questions, choosing appropriate research methods and measurement techniques in diverse areas of psychology. To have knowledge about and basic applications skills needed for data collection, statistical analysis, interpretation the findings and, reporting techniques specific to psychology, basically. To have an non-prejudiced approach about the individual difference areas such as age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability and socio-economic status in psychological applications. To be aware of the importance of ethical principles and values specific to psychology and of working by the guidance with these principles and values.
Physical Infrastructure
Department of Psychology is located at The Faculty of Arts and Science Building (Block C, 2nd Floor). A Psychology Laboratory serving for both research and teaching pruposes has been trying to set up. There is a classroom for graduate programs which is located at 2nd Floor, and 2 classrooms for undergraduate courses which are located at Block C entrance floor (CZ13 & CZ01). Also, students can utilize all social and cultural facilities in campus.
Technical Infrastructure
There are computers and video projectors in all air conditioned classrooms. Capacity of the classrooms ranged from 90 to 100 people. Graduate classroom has a capacity for 15 persons (25 at most).
