Objectives of the Course

To teach detailed anatomy of gingiva, periodontal ligament, cementum and alveolar bone as well as the etiological factors acting in onset and progression of periodontal diseases.

Course Content

Anatomy of periodontal tissues, etiological factors acting in onset and progression of periodontal diseases, periodontal pocket and attachment concepts.

Learning Outcomes
1.To know very well the anatomical features of periodontal tissues and be able to distinguish healthy and diseased periodontal tissues
2.To confident about the concepts of periodontal pocket and attachment which are basic concepts for diagnosis, classification and treatment plan of periodontal diseases
3.To know local and systemic etiological factors acting in onset and progression of periodontal diseases
4.To define different types of periodontal disease and diagnose dental plaque induced gingival disease, non-plaque induced gingival lesions, chronic periodontitis, aggressive periodontitis, gingival abscess, periodontal abscess, periodontitis as a manifestation systemic diseases, necrotizing periodontal diseases and gingival recessions.
5.To apply nonsurgical periodontal therapy
